Smart, Balanced and Directed Philanthropy with measured results.
Social Justice Philanthropy and the prospect of addressing systemic change, we know, is a complex issue that reflects underlying social determinants of health, including, poverty, equity and the need for systems that cultivate human capital through our community. We also know there are many opportunities for us to advance the social justice narrative in philanthropy, by becoming the proxy organization. There are opportunities to innovate and align, and there are roles for social justice organizers to lead in philanthropy.
“GETTING DONORS TO UNDERSTAND THE MEANING BEHIND SOCIAL JUSTICE”
“TO HAVE A PHILANTHROPIC ARM, A FOUNDATION MUST BE CONCERNED WITH THE WHOLE PICTURE, WE HAVE TO JOIN TOGETHER.”
“OUR STRENGTH IS IN OUR TOGETHERNESS AS A WHOLE, NOT IN OUR SMALL PARTS.”
“FOR JUSTICE, I NEVER SOUND RETREAT!” I UNDERSTAND HOW TO ADJUST IN CONFRONTING FEAR AND FINDING SOLUTIONS IN LEADING THE WAY IN ORDER TO ACHIEVE OUR FIGHT FOR JUSTICE.
Where we position ourselves
We Focus on Healthy Social Justice Ecosystems by Providing System-Level Change
We believe in social justice leaders who sit on the frontlines in combating social ills. Our foundation seeks to invest in social justice organizations because we trust that activists are the leaders in fighting for deep-level systemic changes. Therefore, we place social justice organizations and activists at the center of our theory of change.
We will devote our resources to empowering, supporting, and sustaining the social justice ecosystem. We will also convene, educate, and collaborate with like-minded philanthropists and philanthropic organizations to place high emphasis on innovative funding strategies to meet the needs of social justice organizations. We coined this as “Philanthropic Activism” – the act of investing with the lens that see activists as systemic-level change agents.
